BioBag makes 100% biodegradable bags for kitchen, pet, and outdoor use. They are a great alternative to plastic grocery bags, which are becoming banned in many places.

Nowadays one can't read or watch the news without hearing about how plastic bags are destroying the environment. They take forever to degrade, and are often seen stuck in trees or blowing in the wind along the side of the road.

Several areas are taking action against plastic grocery bags. Almost every store now sells reusable shopping bags. San Francisco has banned the use of traditional bags, requiring stores to provide biodegradable or recyclable bags to customers. Seattle has recently imposed a 20-cent fee for customers who need plastic bags in stores.

Biodegradable BioBags

BioBag is the world's largest producer of compostable and biodegradable plastic bags. They are made from a material that comes from non genetically modified organism (GMO) corn, so they are a renewable resource. The inks used on the bags are soy-based. The bags can compost in as quickly as 10-45 days, or longer depending on the compost conditions.

Compostable Kitchen Garbage Bags

BioBags come in several sizes. There are 3-gallon and 13-gallon sizes which fit most kitchen garbage cans. The 3-gallon bags work well for holding kitchen waste for composting, or for lining smaller garbage cans such as in the bathroom. The 13-gallon size works well in the larger kitchen trashcans. However, the bags are "breathable" and let air through, so liquids shouldn't be poured in the bags. Also, liquids might hasten the decomposition process, so overly wet trash is to be avoided.

Outdoor Uses

For the outdoors, BioBag makes several products. A 33-gallon lawn and leaf bag is available for grass clippings, raked leaves, and other outdoor waste. Many cities and towns have yard waste collections, where they will compost all biodegradable materials. BioBags are an excellent option for those who live in such cities.

BioBag also makes dog waste collection bags. Since dog waste is biodegradable, it makes sense to pick it up and throw it out in biodegradable packaging. The dog waste bags are available in small and large sizes

BioBag makes the only 100% biodegradable cat litter pan liners available. Cat litter (but not cat waste) is biodegradable. After removing the waste from cat boxes filled with scoopable litter, the remaining litter can be composted along with the BioBag liner

BioBag is the first company to make 100% biodegradable bags for many household uses. In addition, BioBag makes a compostable grocery bags for stores to purchase for commercial use. For more information about compostable and biodegradable bags, please visit the BioBag website.

I believe that biodegradable plastics are important for our environment. I wonder if I might ask a favor of you and your readers? I'm conducting a short survey...takes about a minute to answer and doesn't ask for personal info...on biodegradable plastics. Would you all please take a moment and answer the survey and if possible send it on to anyone you know that might be interested. I want to get a fairly large sampling for my survey.
